This is a very wise approach, to hopefully avoid the negative symptoms experienced by others who just jump in without such consideration. If it were me, I would have a tea of galega officinalis once a day for 2 weeks, 3-5 grams of lysine daily for 2 weeks, and 5 mg boron daily for two weeks, in addition to the Vit C & selenium. I would ingest normal amounts of high quality protein, and aavoid all fluoride intake.  As always, the more raw foods eaten, the better, and the more pure water the better.
