The amount of Iodine that you need is the amount that makes you feel better.
The key question about this controversy is whether a person is suffering with an Iodine deficiency disease or not. If a woman has fibrocystic breast disease, and then 100mg of Iodine with co-supplements is called for to expedite the cure.
Men generally don't seem to need iodine at all until they get older and start suffering from Prostate & low Testosterone. We think that taking iodine will prevent prostate problems. Iodine is proven to cure prostate & testicle cysts.
A woman with no deficiency diseases can be happy with 12.5 mg a day. This is the dosage that my wife is taking.
The last question is how toxic a person is. The toxins of fluoride, bromide, & chlorine takes over the iodine cell receptors. Some people are so toxic that just 1 drop of iodine results in skin rash & bloating.

The goal in this case is to get rid of the toxins, then drop down to a maintenance level of iodine. Dr. Brownstein recommends 50mg to detox, and we recommend 100+mg to detox.

Everyone is different, but yet everyone needs iodine.
I am finding out that Asthma is caused by Candida overgrowth in the lungs. The asthma is caused by the Candida, and not not the allergens that are normally harmless. I am into this because I have been suffering from asthma & inhalers for 30 years. I find that I need 800mg a day of SSKI to get rid of my asthma. Even 800mg a day may not be enough because doctors routinely prescribe 1.8 GRAMS a day of SSKI which they call PIMA. Details here:

There is no perfect answer for how much iodine each person needs to take. To help each person find his own way, I have created Iodine Resources:
