As part of Dr Patricia Slagle's the way up protocol I was supplementing l-tyrosine and after a few weeks I had worked my way up to 6000mg per day, the reason for doing this protocol was because I suffer from chronic fatigue and with tyrosine being a precursor to dopamine and ephedrine, I thought it may help but It looks as though I ended up progressing way too fast through the protocol and causing some major disruption with my endocrine and central nervous system.
Initially I was feeling good it was enhancing my training and mental alertness but after one intense training session I took myself to the ER as I was in a lot of chest discomfort my heart rate would not come back down and felt nauseous. I stopped supplementation immediately and It has been over 4 weeks since this episode but my life has been a nightmare ever since. I experience chest tightness and palpitations every day and much agitation that leads to anxiety, my whole nervous system seems to be overstimulated, my doctor has put me on beta blockers which helps regulate my heart rate and pressure but I am still in much chest discomfort, I take lorazepam (Ativan) 2mg in the morning which seems to ease my symptoms and by the time evening comes round I am feeling pretty normal and I manage to sleep ok. I find this quite interesting.. ? but unsure about the mechanism, as If I go without the lorazepam in the morning and take in evening or not at all I am restless with chest discomfort and spasming all night.
My thyroid was originally slightly overactive when measured but the last couple of times it has been checked and it is normal.
At the moment the only way I can describe how I feel is that it is like I am on some harsh stimulant without the any fun buzz, it’s a horrible consistent feeling and I am not sleeping and have strange tingling sensation in my hands and feet and seem to be highly sensitive to any electrical appliances I touch which makes my heart race and light headed and brings on much anxiety, I have so much tension and discomfort in my chest and haven’t slept in days, The beta blockers have helped a little bit as in they now prevent any associated anxiety I was having from heart rate spikes, but other than that I am still trying hard to hold it all together, any help or any ideas of what my body is going through? And will I recover?
Seritonin syndrome, Sympathomimetic Toxicity, Dysautonomia? I am not sure very confused, all blood work is fine and ecg fine.
Supplements that help a little are l-theanine, passionflower and chamomile.
