You sound a lot like me, except it was a stomach bug and not extreme stress that was the tipping point. It was continuous stress and unhealthy eating (mostly due to stress) that had my entire immune system low going into the stomach flu. My adrenals were shot as well. I pretty much had all of your symptoms in addition to severe food sensitivities . I still had remnants of a period, but until Iodine it was very short and low.

I discovered Iodine late, but if I knew everything in the beginning that I know now, for me, I think the order of most important would have been: Cutting out sensitive foods and eating Paleo'ish, Iodine, Magnesium, D, adrenal cortex, colostrum, certain amino acids and then everything else. I was taking around 30-40 pills in the beginning and I'm sure I needed a ton of them at some level, but the above are the ones that were the biggest difference for me. I also had trouble absorbing Magnesium in the GI and had to do transdermal (and am now on Ionic). Transdermal magnesium also contains chloride which is an important part of the Iodine protocol, so you might look into that for killing 2 birds with one stone. I do clay occasionally, however I try to be careful as it'll pull Magnesium and other minerals out as well.

As to the Vitamin C thing, again I found I could take Iodoral and felt I was getting plenty of IodiNe from that (and my Iodide from Trapper's). Iodoral is coated and digests slower and further down the GI so it's less affected by Vitamin C. Your body can still convert from Iodide to IodiNe, however it's just more work for it and thus it's best to give it the form it needs if you're having other issues.

For the depression, look at the book "the mood cure". I had the same issue, but mine was mostly due to low amino acids (again from the GI not working well). Plus being constantly sick for years and not being able to figure things out causes Depression on its own.

Hang in there, you'll appreciate it coming out the other side since you'll have learned how to stay healthy for the rest of your life. At least that's what I keep telling myself is the silver lining in this whole ordeal :)
