Candida can alkalize the environment to create the shift from yeast to fungal form. It could do this for any organism, but I would think that other factors would also have to be present, such as a lack of bacterial inhibition and immune system dysregulation.
I think fragile refers to immunosuppression in this article.
I haven't seen much benefit from S. boulardii in patients, some but not much.
