The problem is, as long as external hormones are being used your body has no reason to increase production of its own regardless of whether or not its able.

With the above in mind, if I were in your shoes and was diagnosed with hypo, what I would do take at least 50mg Iodine and 400mcg selenium for 6 months, then take Iodine loading test. If test did not show sufficient, then stay the course and take the test again in a few months.

Then once you reached Iodine sufficiency slowly taper of the external hormones over a few month or more period of time, maybe get labs every couple months to see whats happening.

Originally you werent producing enough T3/T4 likely due to lack of natural resources (ie iodine/selenium) so the doc gave you external hormones. As they were introduced the various feedback mechanisms sense the T3/T4 sp the thyroid wasnt triggered into producing more and possibly even less than it was prior. If the external dose was high enough it may cause the body to cease production all together. This is just as bad if not worse than not having the raw materials because the gland is turned off.

Have you ever broken a bone and been in a cast? What happens to the limb? Muscle mass fades away and even bone density diminishes because the limb isnt being used. The same happens to organs/glands that are being used.

Once shutdown, assuming the raw materials are back in place your going to have to simply reduce external thyroid horm one intake and wait for the body to ramp back up production and pick up the slack. There is no easy way around it.

All of the above being said, if you have been on thyroid meds and are still rundown then you very well could have other issues such as pathogens and B12/methylfolate deficiencies etc.
