I don't know how long ago this was posted but here is a reply for you (i've worked in the dental field for 20 years): Your dentist is correct. Once your enamel is gone, it's gone. Swishing with an acid rinse for a minute everyday is never a good idea. The same goes for any acidic food or drink. You should be very gentle on your mouth. The goal is to clean the plaque from your teeth, not strip your mouth bear. Using an electric brush, dissolving some plain baking soda onto your brush and using that as your toothpaste is the least abrasive route(it's very low in abrasion and raises the PH in your mouth--so it's not so acidic). For the sensitivity, brush/floss as usual, rinse and get a toothpaste from the dentist called MI Paste. Brush it on your teeth and swish it around for 3 full minutes. Spit it out and DO NOT RINSE. It will help remineralize the teeth to help with sensitivity (best to do before you go to bed). If your teeth are very worn, your dentist is again correct. You may need to have composite (resin) fillings placed to seal the worn areas (especially if they look ditched out). Remember acid and scrubbing your teeth with a brush with toothpaste is a recipe for wear and sensitivity. When you eat or drink something acidic--swish with water or a water/baking soda swish to get the PH up. If you eat something sugary, do the same thing but wait at least 30 minutes to brush your teeth or your could wear your enamel even more. Everyone's mouth and tissue type is different. Do not go by other's experiences, you are an individual. Also, look for a dentist with an FAGD or MAGD behind their name--they have a commitment to continuing education and learning.
