You are between a rock and a hard place. I am there too, because I'm detoxing fibrocystic breasts. It is the bromide from the detox that is blocking your thyroid, hence the cold spells. Iodine flushes the bromide out of the thyroid. That's why you feel better when you take more iodine. It is the bromide that is fogging your brain, also from the detox.
Salt is your solution. Dissolve your salt in water and sip it throughout the day. This way you don't get the diarrhea, but are still providing your body with plenty of salt to remove the bromide. Make sure you drink enough water with it. Adjust the amount of salt according to your symptoms.
Apart from bromide, Iodine also detoxes other nasties. These can give you brain fog too. Some of them are secreted via the liver - gallbladder - colon path. For that to work properly you need your detox path ways to be healthy. Type "liver detox pathways" in your search engine to get information on that.
You say you get brain fog and the cold spells, I recognise those. You don't get the depression? Or the zits? Or the fatigue? I can always tell it's time for some salt whenever I start to feel angry and down and zits appear on my chin. That's the bromide talking.
Dr. Wright also prescribes vitamin A for fibrocystic disorders. I take 75.000 IU of that daily (3 x 25.000 IU) with vitamin D (10.000 IU) and vitamin E and vitamin K2 MK7 (100 mcg) and K2 MK4 (15 mg). Since I take the vitamin A and the other fat soluble vitamins, the fibroyds are disappearing faster. Don't take either vitamin A or D without the other fat solubles, because that is when they cause toxicity, see Weston Price on that.
