I joined this forum today only to share what "cured" my condition and therefore return the favour since I have been lurking here for years and the contributions of other members have helped me come up with this solution. I'm forever grateful to all of you.

My story: Female, 23, have had typical EC lips since I can remember. Pictures from when I was 12 show that I had EC back then but not when I was 11, I don't know what changed in between and I honestly don't remember. Crusting cycle of 3-5 days, turns white when wet, looks good on the day of peeling and maybe the next. I dealt with it by peeling after showering and using a lip balm throughout the day.

Unsuccessfully I've tried: Vaseline, Aquaphor, 3 kinds of Bepanthen, all sorts of drugstore balms and moisturizers, glycerin and lanolin. Glycerin on wet lips followed by lanolin was the greatest moisturizer ever, however the peeling cycle continued.

What I've used to cure it: I thought my case was caused by trauma in the first place, so I decided to go with the "moisture therapy" idea but also add in a topical steroid. I used Advantan, which I could find the most easily locally and applied it twice a day, morning and night followed by Lansinoh lanolin. I kept the lanolin with me all day and applied as it wore off, keeping a barrier on at all times. I did not peel at all, however I cut the edges as they separated with nail clippers. The 3-5 day cycle continued on this treatment for 1.5 months, however the line between mucosa and lips began to form slowly and the affected area got slightly smaller and crusts got thinner. After 1.5 months exactly, the crusting stopped after the last crusts peeled away, it looked shinier like mucosa rather than the raw skin it looked like when freshly peeled. I got scared of steroid atrophy so I stopped using Advantan and continued with the lanolin for 2 more weeks. After the shiny, mucosa like area got covered with regular lip skin over a weeks time, it has not peeled at all.

It's now been 3 weeks without peeling. I have been using lanolin in the morning, maybe once during the day and again at night, but the weather is so cold and dry I cannot imagine not using anything. The previously affected area is completely normal, if not slightly thicker in appearance due to years of trauma. The lines have returned and the skin is perfectly elastic, nothing like what it used to be a few months ago. It's pink again instead of the orangish-reddish colour it used to be. I don't think this would've worked if my EC was caused by food intolerances or allergies though.

I just wanted to share that the posts here encouraged me to try this route, I'm so glad I discovered this forum. Thanks everyone and I hope this time my post helps others cure their condition :)
