I tried using 5 gallon jug when my drain field slowed down and the results were immediate. I poured the jug directly into the D-Box from the exit of my tank.

I don't know the optimum but I would guess that 20 gallons might be a good start. I have 3 extra jugs sitting on the side ready to use the next time my field slows down.
