I'm so sorry to hear that that happened to you as a child, Tena. I think my adrenal fatigue also came from early childhood abuse. I think it set my brain pathways early on to have a heightened stress response, and after decades of stress (and pushing myself too hard) I got adrenal fatigue. Still, brain pathways can be reset, as can the HPA axis. We'll make it.
