Hi Lorica,

I just now finished the whole one hour video by Jaffe. Yes, VERY impressive!

A partial correction to what you wrote: Jaffe is NOT "a big fan of AA." He said that he does not believe you should EVER [orally] ingest your ascorbate in the hydrogen, i.e. acidic, form.

PERHAPS a more healthful way to ingest the ascorbate MAY BE with a balanced intake of the mineral ascorbates, e.g. magnesium, calcium, sodium, etc. I would not claim to know uncategorically! However, Dr. Cathcart [with over 25,000 patients treated with Bowel Tolerance doses of hydrogen ascorbate] wrote this: "...the dramatic effects are always with ascorbic acid orally and sodium ascorbate intravenously. I have not been able to achieve the ascorbate effect with mineral ascorbates orally. Mineral ascorbates are fine forms of vitamin C, but when you are really sick, the mitochondria are failing in their refueling of the free radical scavengers with electrons. The ascorbic acid carries 2 extra electrons per molecule, where the mineral ascorbates ...carry only one (plus, per molecule, the mineral ascorbates are heavier, weighing more than the hydrogen the mineral replaces. So the mineral ascorbates are not potent enough to accomplish the ascorbate effect. There may be other reasons that we do not appreciate additionally."

I assume, Lorica, from Jaffe's talk, e.g. average intake chart, that he believes nobody that is HEALTHY will need more than 4 to 6 grams of ascorbate a day, and therefore will not be ingesting an unacceptable amount of "excess" mineral(s) with that amount, e.g. roughly 12% of mineral ascorbate is composed of the mineral. I FEEL awfully good [ALL of the time] IF I am unhealthy, but who knows for SURE? I do have to "deal with" two root canals and six mercury Amalgam fillings! But again, I never notice ANY problem(s) with/from them [that I am AWARE of].

I believe, Lorica, based upon extensive study over a 45 year period, that the ULTIMATE diet is the "garden of Eden" diet, e.g. fresh, raw, ripe, organic, fruits and vegetables. If a person lives STRICTLY upon that diet, they will consume [on a year-around average] in the neighborhood of 1,000 to 2,000 milligrams of ascorbic acid per day. There is NO question in my mind, Lorica, that a person living strictly on that diet, will be consuming PLENTY of ascorbic acid [per day], i.e. to be VERY healthy!

But I [for one] have tried countless times to do it [and failed]. It is the social, far more than the physical, side of that diet that I find the greater challenge, e.g. not being able to "break bread" with friends and family [and simply the pure joy (and comfort) of eating (all of the various kinds of different foods)]! I bring this up because I found Jaffe's dietary and supplemental recommendations fairly EXTENSIVE. The beauty of Bowel Tolerance dosing with ascorbic acid, as I see it, is that a person can pretty much eat whatever they want/like [AND in quantities they want/like], and still be reasonably, if not VERY, healthy, e.g. as my example shows [or, at least, seems to]. Simple, straight-forward, and easy [socially and otherwise]!

Although I would not pretend to understand ALL of the Science he presented, it is plausible to me that if one followed his recommendations, carefully and strictly, then they would/could very possibly live a healthful existence. I would not know for sure. I will say this: I do believe [ala Levy, Cathcart, etc.] that it is the [alkalinizing] electrons that are the important factor, and I think that Jaffe would agree. That being said: I do NOT know how to ingest/acquire them in adequate, i.e. THERAPEUTIC, doses, day-in and day-out, year-in and year-out, without ingesting ascorbic acid, e.g. the mineral ascorbates have too much excess minerals [IMO], unless one is willing to strictly live on the "garden of Eden" diet [and/or practice extensive calorie restriction]. I've [finally] found a good "WORK-AROUND" for me, Lorica [and I definitely AM excited about that], and I [simply] ASSUME it will work for others also.

As an aside, Lorica, I have found no fruit [gram-for-gram] to be as alkalinizing as the leaves and stalks of vegetables, e.g. Celery being my favorite.

Thank you for the [very informative] video referral, Lorica, and you have all my best wishes for a healthful resolution to your current health challenges!

Sincerely,

David
