The japanese consume 12-13 mg daily, and are not bedridden.
I suggest there are other reasons for this happening. Even my cat had 2-4 mg a few times:)

Option of course if it really was the iodine; stay away from it, never take it again. Antidote with fluoride...

Or, educate (yourself)about iodine, pass it on to your friend/s so they can learn why it happened. And how they can influence their health positively by taking it.
