Here is the quote from him as given in an interview:

Interviewer: Are there some people who shouldn't use cayenne? Such as for burning ulcers?
Schulze: Everyone can use cayenne. However, some people should use less to start up, and then use it medicinally, but only for a short period of time. For example people who tend Run Hot --- hot, dry, feverish, inflammatory types -a should use it periodically, not all the time.......

I have started to get on a regimen of cayenne to improve circulation and the other good things that it does. However, I seem to react badly to it, in that I have a sharp increase in joint pain and inflammatory muscle stiffness when I do. I notice the effect within hours. In the past (several years ago)I was taking nearly a teaspoon of it 3 times a day and didn't notice this. The past few times, I began with 1/3 to 1/2 tsp. 2-3 times per day and had to stop in a couple of days because the pain was too much.

I have googled this "run hot" idea but was not able to find out any more information. I do have osteoarthritis and plenty of inflammation in my body and I do tend to be warmer than others in a room (always have been). I am not sure what is meant by dry. I don't have fevers unless I am sick which is rarely. As near as I know I am taking good quality cayenne (african bird's eye- organic- from Pacific Botanicals- 150,000 HU).

Perhaps it is just increasing circulation and "waking up" areas that need cleaning out, thus causing the pain? In which case I should just tough it out and maybe back off and do it slowly?

Any ideas or experiences?
