Yes tithing is an area that can divide. even within families. When I had my more successful business, I tithed on my gross income, before my overhead because I thought that was what you were supposed to do. I found out most people didn't do that much later. But I sure don't regret it, as they say, you cant outgive God. I
ll say this at the risk of losing any rewards from God. But, later I was not tithing, but I spent $2000 on building 2 water wells for people in other countries that had only dirty water and not much of that.

It is personal I guess. I cant hardly give now at all. Hopefully that is temporary. But I saw amazing things go on in my finances when I did. I don't think that was coincidence.
