If the affected teeth are still alive (no root canal procedure was performed), you can get away with drilling out the amalgams. However, it is wise to make sure you won't be breathing and/or swallowing the toxic dust. Cutler has more on it in his book, The Amalgam Illness -Diagnosis and Treatment.
