Hi Mari,
i've been meaning to post a reply to this message for ages. I’ve suffered on and off from bouts of pompholyx for 15 years. In that time I’ve had 3 (serious) flare ups. Each time so severe I had to bandage my hand and was in almost daily pain with the burning / itching cycle / blistering, bursting, crusting, splitting, bleeding. The first, 15 years ago, was severe, I had it all over the palm of my right palm and after visiting my doctor (eventually) it went away. It was gone for years, and flared up again a few months before my wedding 6 years ago. I tried every cure I could think of. Every topical steroid cream in the book, oral steroids, allergy testing, eliminating sugar, dairy, whatever from my diet, Chinese herbs. And finally it went away again 2 years later when I got pregnant (amazing as my doctor warned me sometimes these things can go either way – get better or worse with pregnancy). It reared its ugly head again about 2 years ago, and I was at my wits end. I couldn’t trace the medical records from 15 years ago (a temporary doctor I only visited a few times whilst living in the area, old records had been moved to archive), had no idea what had cured it before (except pregnancy). Anyway after once again exhausting all avenues after desperately trawling the internet I landed on your post. I chose to follow a few easy to do steps initially. Bought rubber gloves and ALWAYS wore them cleaning dishes or wiping down counter tops, bought goats milk soap, dessert essence jojoba oil and bachs rescue cream. I stopped using handwashes from dispensers in public toilets, just washing the fingers in water (as it was my palms affected by pompholyx). Washed and conditioned my hair and self in the shower with my left hand (unaffected hand). No longer put anything but occasional water and jojoba oil and bachs rescue cream on my affected hand. Within I think a week it was gone. And has remained gone ever since. I cannot thank you enough. I hope somebody else, even one person, reading this tries the above things and finds respite from the discomfort and frustration and seemingly uncurable pompholyx. Western medicine failed me, trying to fix the problem rather than the cause. Thank you thank you thank you (two years late!).
