xylitol is anti-fungal and anti-bacterial. don't know the exact mechanism of action, but somehow the fungi/bacteria try to metabolize it and end up dying. also i read somewhere that it can break up harmful biofilms (in the mouth, intestines, skin etc.) i've been using it instead of Sugar for a while, but not in big quantities. been thinking about trying it in larger doses and/or in an enema...
