Thank you MST!

I don't get what the big deal is for people to at least consider the annihilation view. It's still hell! It's still horrendous! And contrary to what you said Rainy, many people have said they would rather be alive and suffering forever than to be extinct forever. Now I'm with you, I don't get that at all, and apparently anyone that can say that has not had a hard day of suffering in their life ever, or hasn't thought the whole idea of suffering for eternity out for one second. But I've heard many give that answer. In fact, I was listening to a debate also last night on the traditional view vs. the annihilation view and the guy arguing for the traditional view said it would be immoral for God to just destroy people, and compared it to euthanasia. What??? So he said it would be moral for God to torment people forever and ever but not moral for God to annihilate people??? I don't know what debate you were listening to, but the one I was listening to, the annihilation view won out big time, in my opinion.

I guess I just want to understand from people that get so angry when the annihilation view is brought up, why are they so angry?
If God did just destroy the wicked in the end, what would be so bad about that? Like MST is saying, the contrast between what the saved are going to have, eternal life with Christ which is going to be better than we can possibly imagine, compared to the lost not having life at all (if that is the way it is). Is that not enough? It sure sounds like the contrast here is eternal life vs. death:

Romans 6:23

23 For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.

"I saw by listening to the debate last night, that this annihilation belief is a belief of many cults. Vektek has told us that she was once involved with Herbert W Armstrong. I really think he is still influencing her unknowingly. I am praying for her. "

People love to use that one. But no, I'd gladly leave my view of hell behind if it was just from something Herbert W. Armstrong made up. I really hate that it is tied to him in some way. It only is though because he stole much of his doctrinal material from the Seventh Day Adventists, including this doctrine on hell. And the Seventh Day Adventists have all kinds of error, heretical teachings from Ellen G. White, etc. but I believe they happen to have this doctrine of hell right. Even cults can have some truth, we all know that.
Edward Fudge is not a Seventh Day Adventists and never was and he grew up believing in the traditional view of hell. It wasn't until he began a deep, thorough study of hell that he changed his mind.
