I would bet we have a similar strain of the folliculitis bacteria if Erthromycin works to control it for you as well. Mupirocin topical ointment would help settle down the occasional flare up so consider using it too if you decide to stay on Antibiotics .

It's really unknown about long term Antibiotic usage and severe health effects. You should take probiotics while using Antibiotics but it's also unkown how much they benefit the gut flora while remaining on Antibiotics long term. I'm sure antibiotics contributed to my weight gain because I was always athletic, active, and ate reasonably healthy. Over time antibiotics made me very tired. These past few years I would sleep for 7-8 hours overnight and then when I came home from work I couldn't stay awake and would fall sleep for another 3-4 hours in the evening. My life was literally passing me by because I was either tired most of the day or sleeping most of the time so I had to do something different.

When I went off antibiotics and started using the natural alternatives my folliculitis started to come back. I had about 8-10 new breakouts appear and my first thought was what the hell am I doing? It's going to come back again and probably worse than ever. I've tried other treatments like apple cider vinegar and even oil of oregano in the past but those alone never helped so I was skeptical about any natural alternatives. But I told myself I would keep at it for a month no matter how much I suffered because antibiotics were having too many negative side effects. About 7-10 days after starting the natural treatments all the new spots started to dry up but still in my mind I thought it wouldn't last and they would return. Well the folliculitis didn't return and my scalp is healthier than it's been in 20 years.

Make sure you read the entire thread and replies because I changed the routine a little if you are going to try my treatments. It's up to you to try what has worked for me and I can't guarantee it will help or that quitting antibiotics is the right choice for you. I can tell you it was 110% the right choice for me. I have no recurrence of folliculitis and I no longer sleep 12 hours a day. I sleep like a normal human being for 7-8 hours and have a little more energy. I bought an exercise bike recently and have lost 10 pounds. I know as soon as I lose 100 pounds I will get back to my old self again with much more energy. The supplements I take have many health benefits such as being anti-cancer and support heart health so I feel good about taking them everyday. I do hope you and others at least give it a try and see the same benefits I've had and report back your results. I'm sure it will not work as well for everybody but do know there is hope to find alternatives to antibiotics.
