I sympathize with anyone that has seen or been through horrendous suffering and then carried that through in their minds to eternal torment, something no human could even possibly wrap their minds around, which is probably why most don't spend much time thinking about it or even properly studying the scriptures on it.

But this man you mentioned Rainy, came to the wrong conclusion I believe. There is certainly a hell, as the scriptures you posted clearly show. It's very real. But is it an ever torturing hell? I think a careful study of the scriptures as the man in the original post, Edward Fudge, has done, will show that it isn't.

My dad has talked to many ministers about the doctrine of hell, and the honest ones will admit they've never spent much time studying it. Edward Fudge has spent years studying this and I think it would be good for people to at least hear him out without making up their minds dogmatically that he is wrong, which many have already done.

It's a serious matter I think to portray God as a God that would torture the unsaved forever and ever, if it isn't true.
Have we really thought this through? Can we with finite minds even fathom what forever and ever means? What happened in Rwanda couldn't even be talked about in a comparison to an ever torturing hell and what happened there was beyond horrendous! Would a loving God do that? But most importantly, what does a thorough study of the scriptures say?

I think one of the most important starts with this study is to search the scriptures on whether or not unsaved people have an immortal soul. I believe you'll find they don't.

Matthew 10:28

28 And do not fear those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. Rather fear him who can destroy both soul and body in hell.
