Correction on your suggestion that the paranasal sinuses have in fact a normal flora, this is entirely FALSE. Healthy Paranasal Sinuses are STERILE cavities used in the Conduction Phase of Respiration, assisting in warming and moisturizing air to optimum temp and humidity for alveolar oxygen uptake. Cilia located within the sinuses are used to "Trap" and "remove" inhaled bacteria and foreign contaminants. Normal flora would suggest some biochemical change in the air in regard with the organism that's both beneficial to the host and itself (i.e. The Large Intestines and vitamin K, the oral cavity, etc). To suggest to another to introduce an otherwise non-pathogenic organism to a sterile environment is both ignorant and irresponsible, the risk for infection and systemic growth are high when allowing one organism to take threshold in an otherwise sterile environment, hence why we all "carry" Strep A (Pyogenes) but only become sick when it becomes the dominant organism in the oropharynx. I truly sympathize for anyone how has taken such advice and may be suffering from its consequences.
