IMO, a doctor telling a patient not to take Iodine is like telling her to stop eating to cure severely under weight condition. Iodine is ESSENTIAL for the thyroid, breasts, ovaries, uterus & hormonal balance.

Is she taking thyroid drugs? I assume for Hypothyroid? Get her off of Synthroid, she should be on Natural Thyroid Hormones:

I didn't mean to swamp you with reading material, but there are no easy quick answers to thyroid problems. It would help if you gave us more information about her condition. Thyroid problems are typically a female problems because of insufficient iodine. The thyroid, breasts, ovaries & uterus are doing battle for the little available iodine, and one or more become sickly when there is not enough to go around.
