there are chemical *paradoxes* that occur in the body that do not follow any lab understood rhyme or reason.

bicarbonate is made in a healthy stomach at the *same time* that the HCL is secreted...

in addition bicarbonate is found in the saliva (lymph fluids), and manufactured in the pancreas and colon.

so yes.. digestion is the primary target with bicarbonate salts as well.

the IMAM is not in and of itself *new* either...

the recipe here adds glucose...

and switchel in its many variations is an electrolyte loaded drink as well as simple things like south east Asian lemonade/limeade... which uses copious amounts of *salt* (it actually tastes salty) in addition to the citrus/water *sugar* mix.

if you order it at an authentic Vietnamese restaurant it may come to your table with a salted rim... and the drink uses the whole lemon - peel, seeds and all so it can be chunky/chewy.
