I've asked MH about this in the past and he says that it depends on the source. Like anything else, molasses can be contaminated with unwanted chemicals etc. It's hard to know when we haven't processed it ourselves or know and trust the source. Good molasses is supposed to be able to turn grey hair to its natural colour again.

I prefer the dark organic dark maple syrup over blackstrap unsulfured molasses because I don't have access to the Amish sorghum molasses either. That being said, I have both blackstrap molasses and dark maple syrup in my kitchen.

If you search this forum (search box is at top right of screen), you will find at least one or two times when I asked MH about molasses in the past.

You may also want to check out what Stanley Burroughs had to say about dark maple syrup; he wrote a couple of books that I like.
