Chronic candidiasis is the result of a low immune status. It is thought candida albicans has the ability of manipulating cell-mediated immunity one time the infection sets. Candida does it releasing a cell wall protein called mannan during its growing.
Curiously, mannan is an immune stimulator itself, but when it reaches the blood, it binds with copper creating a mannan-copper complex that is believed to be responsible for the acquired cell-mediated immune suppression candida sufferers have.
