I thought I would write a little review of the Sota Bio Tuner Bt9, that I have been using the past month.

As most of you know, I had suffered terrible middle insomnia for many years, that 'waking up at 3am wanting to run a marathon' and working a hectic job producing some of the worlds biggest events, I hit severe AF, suffered but managed it for a few years. I did over train prior to my first bout of CFS, but stress was a constant factor in my lifeand took me from exhaustion into wired and tired, and being a production manager, well stress goes with the job! So I was sleeping a couple of hours, waking up at 2-3am, then being awake with a racing mind till 5/6am, then managed another couple of hours and feeling terrible afterwards. I know so many of us on here suffered this. Things got worse during s big hectic project i had on and I relied on my MD who gave me a short term course of benzodiazapains, Valium for two months, I finally 'crashed' at the start of this year big time after a cold turkey detox. I had never had an addition to pysch meds, it was merely a few times a week for a couple of months - made me realised how bad pharma meds genuinely are! (and infact any pills/supplements that mess around with ones brain chemisty)

Sleep had always been my biggest problem, and then after the 'meds fiasco' anxiety became terrible, periods of hyper anxiety, severe daily panic attacks and adrenaline fueled hours, and sleep, well that went out of the door completely, at times I didnt sleep for weeks on end. I had tried many supplements, protocols, diets over the years etc for all of this, and none had succeeded in 'quietening my mind' and preventing the 3am wake up calls (even the nasty pharma meds didnt even manage that!), so although I ws dubious about this product, I thought what the hell, its worth a shot rather than popping supplements and poison into my body.

I looked into the Alpha Stim as well, but it was WAY out of my price range, so i plummed for the Bio Tuner. It was literally, the best thing I have ever done.

"The Cranial Electro-Stimulation (CES) therapy provided by the SOTA Bio-Tuner is used to re-balance and improve hormone production - and thus enhance associated bodily functions, since, in addition to the nervous system, our body’s operations are controlled by the hormones produced by our endocrine glands and other organs"

Week 1 - 20 mins AM, 20 mins before bed, using Mode 3

No massively noticeable changes, but falling to sleep is easier, and I seem a lot calmer during the morning after my 'session'. Initial thoughts of 'this could be another waste of money like my draw of supplements' went through my head, but i thought I would give it the month the designers suggest to see results.

Week 2 - 20 mins AM, 40 mins PM, using mode 3

The increase to 40 minutes PM made a massive change to my sleep patterns, I was still waking up, yet I wasnt waking up hyper or agitated every night, maybe on 2-3 times a week- this was the first time in 3 years. The morning session had become calming me down from when I wake up, it was becoming more natural to be calm in the morning - theres that morning cortisol being lowered.

Week 3 - 20 mins AM, 40 mins PM, using mode 3 - raking up the intensity during the evening session

Sleep was improving at the rate of knots, I was waking up with all my muscles relaxed, and almost feeling 'dead' - something that hadnt happened in 4 years...it was like the old days when I had fought at a karate tournament and then slept exhausted for 12 hours afterwards! It was awesome! however I had noticed a deep 'funk' in mood had appeared (this is commonly reported after a few weeks while everything 'shifts' around')mornings where becoming naturally calmer, so i removed the AM session. I had suffered daily panic attacks since coming off the valium (never had suffered panic attacks before in my life) nine months ago, but these had started to stop. I could feel one coming, then it would just dissapear. My tachacardia had reduced as to the brain fog.

Week 4 - 20 mins PM 7pm - option 1 - 20-40 minutes 11pm - Option 1 high intensity and option 3 for final 15 minutes - high intensity

After some research I found option 1 to be the deep sleep mode.

My god, it has been a miracle! I feel relaxed of an evening (normally when the AF anxiety hits) and sleep has improved. Its not perfect by all means, but for the first time I seem closer to be able to see that maybe one day, things will be normal again. The changes I have seen in four weeks of something I have suffered for four years has been incredible. Panic attacks are 90% gone. Mood has increased for the better, energy levels are up (probably because im not in the stressed out on the go AF state anymore) Im looking forward to the next four weeks to see what it brings.

Other info

I found raking up the intensity really helps especially during those 'ive done to much today and im wired as hell' evenings, at the point where it kinds hurts! it puts you out completely, and you dream. Lots. At first I was wierded out by it as it had been years since I dreamt, but then I began to enjoy it, even if i woke up, I could fall back asleep into a the same dream very quickly. I havent had nightmares, just dreams, but some old memories do come out. Panic attacks have vanished, muscle tension has lessoned, internal 'shaking' has reduced. If im having a particularly bad day, ill pop the headset on for a twenty minute session, and feel much calmer and clearer afterwards

Conclusions

Its not a magic bullet for AF, but natural sleep is the biggest natural healer, so if you suffer, like many of us on here of insomnia, and you can manage the initial cost of the unit, I strongly recommend it. It sure beats paying an ND for pills, and for the cost of a 9v battery once a week, its a sure winner. Just remember that we are all different, so you may need to play around for a while to find the right settings and durations/intensities/modes that work for you. The only downside is the cost. I know a lot of us on here are skint by not being able to work anymore, but I worked out how many supplements I had been told to try, and the cost, actually was less than them all combined. This is a good tool in the Battling Adrenal Fatigue Arsenal.

Hope thats of use to some of you!
