yeah, ironic. I have not ever read 1984, yet, although I found it in paperback for 75 cents a few weeks ago. However, Brave New World was required reading way back in school (the 70s). I was naturally impressed beyound belief, thinking it as a gifted work of literary genius full of amazing vision, with components even having already come true and become social norms before my naieve eyes way back then ..........only to find out many years later that this trumpeted talk of vision was a royal load of crap, it was no such think but instead a well concealed blueprint......duhhh. I've read many and various pieces of history that tell of the Orwells and the Huxley's and the Rhodes' and the Darwins having ingratiated themselves into the hierarchy of britain's upper crust, the clique and crowd of elitist, socialite tyrant-wannabes who had nothing better to do back in the 1800s and early 1900s other than to sit around in all their pompous glory at black-tie tea parties (derivative predeessor to modern day frat keggers) debating, refining plots, hatching societies - like the fabianist's, while hailing and hallowing such greats for their collective one-world view. Today, we've been programmed to believe, often without question, that those following in these footsteps, like a clinton, for instance, are to be held up as beknighted scholars. It's not that I'm suggesting these people aren't clever in their own right. Rhodes was clever enough to have systematically raped and pillaged Africa on his way carving out his vast empire of fortune, fame and intellect, and in his memory today we are left with such sentimental nuggets that have conned us into believing and giving credence to things such as "diamonds ...... a woman's best friend" ;)
