Also please note this: I often get stories from normal people who go to a Amish Healer in Indiana. I have NEVER EVER seen a single story ever written in an Amish Paper by this guy and I HAVE NEVER EVER had the Amish mention this guys name EVER!!!! The guy in Indiana may be Amish or born Amish maybe, but AMISH HEALERS do not seek American English Customers, if anything; they AVOID THEM.

Here is an example of "WHY" the Amish news papers want "INFO" from the Amish Healers. Many Amish have died or suffered from burns needlessly. This story was published as a conclusion of "WHY" the Amish need properly educated on what do do once burned or injured. It was not written directly by the Amish Healer, but his salve was used and it is just 1 of hundreds of such stories in his files of what can go wrong when people are not aware of what must be done! The booklet I made for him is now being printed and sold to all the Amish who ask at a publisher's cost, which is pennies per paper copy in order to "TRY" to avoid needless deaths such as described in this story.

Note again: I am not very impressed with how dumb this family was, but you reading the experience of uneducated people, they are only permitted to learn to the 8th grade and their teachers are always other Amish, so the children are raised is such ways to keep them "dumbed down" and fearful of the English People.

A VERY SHOCKING STORY
DORA FERN STOLL

It was late on a Saturday evening, high time for bed in order to be ready to go to church the next morning, when one of the Troyer boys decided to was his head before retiring. So he got a pail of hot water, setting it on the floor beside the wash sink while he got ready to shampoo his hair. Of course, everyone knows this is a no-no in a family where there are children around, but who could imagine that anything serious could happen that quickly? About the time he had his back turned, he heard a loud scream right behind him. He saw that his little sister, Lydia, 2 ½ years old, had tumbled backwards into the pail of hot water!
The water was not boiling but it was hot. Since she already had her heavy night diapers on, a large area on her buttocks was seriously scalded. The parents came as fast as they could and removed her clothed. The skin came right along with it and they could see that this is something serious.
It had turned out to be a miserable night for them. Lydia cried a good deal of the night. She did not want to be cooled off with water, so they soon applied a lard/flour mixture as described in Stories Behind the News. Roman and Katie had taken turns trying to sooth little Lydia, occasionally giving her something for the pain.
Instead of attending church services in their own district the following morning – which is something the whole family had been looking forward to, since this would have been the first time to go, since baby had joined their family six weeks before – they decided to bring Lydia to see us.
It was one of the Sunday mornings when you woke up even before the alarm clock goes off. Church was here at our place, and as usual, there were some last minute things to do.
It was council meeting today, so we weren’t expecting very many friends to attend from other districts. We were having service in the basement of our youngest daughter’s house – the Cornelius Reimer’s, just a few hundred feet from our house. We were ready before the people started coming and had time to relax and meditate a few minutes. Isn’t it always such a good feeling to know that every corner of the house, yard, and bard have been cleaned and put in order? And how much more important to have our hearts cleaned out and ready to receive the sermon we would receive today.
Everything was a usual and on schedule until 10;30, when Cornelius’ Dorcas came downstairs and whispered into my ear. A badly burned little girl from Norwich was over at our house and we invited Roman Troyers, who had come with a driver inside. Mark was standing reading the scriptures at the time, and Dorcas offered to fetch him as soon as he finished and say down. In the mean time, Roman, Katie and two-year-old Lydia were summoned into out kitchen.
They know that we had treated a number of burns successfully and they wondered if we could treat Lydia. Of course, we said we would.
Burns were deepest on her buttocks, but also some on her back, tummy, and legs. And then we also noticed an older burn on her shoulder. Poor Lydia had received that one, ten days prior, when hot water out of the wash kettle was accidentally splashed on her. That burn was healing nicely and had also been treated with flour/lard mixture. We didn’t realize until later on, that only recently had Lydia begun eating well again from the trauma of the shoulder burn.
Lydia was very brave as we dressed all the burns with B&W salve and burdock leaves. She had such a cherubic appearance and seemed like an especially sweet little girl. When they brought her, she was wearing nothing except her little blue cap, but was wrapped in a clean white sheet. Her burns were red and oozing.
After wrapping Lydia’s burns in gauze, she was clad in white. “You were such a brave little girl,” I told Lydia as I patted her shoulder. “Now you are a little white angel!” Little did I expect that in less than 12 hours, she would be just that.
As far as the burns were concerned, we had no fears, treating them the natural soothing way that we were used to. We encouraged the parents that Lydia must be given electrolytes, so she would not dehydrate, and she must eat food high in protein. We sent some Unsure along and encouraged them to be sure that Lydia take some of the along with electrolytes to replace the fluid loss that her little body had already received.
Mark and I debated a bit, should we keep them here the first little while for observation? It might be a good idea, but they only live half an hour away and they hadn’t been left at home and church was here. In a little but, there would be all kinds of people around. In the evening, there would be supper and singing. Surely it would be alright to go home and come back again in the evening around 9:30 for a dressing change.
We did explain to Romans that since Lydia was a minor and since her burns were serious, we would need to have her see Dr. Skilley the following day. We would need to have him evaluate her, but since today was Sunday, we would wait until tomorrow. Romans were agreed.
Romans took Lydia home and, for us, the day passed as usual. That evening at 9:30, their same driver brought them back – roman, Katie, Lydia, and this time baby was along too. We were shocked to see how unresponsive little Lydia was. She whimpered a bit as they carried her in on a pillow. Her brow was covered with beads of sweat, but her face and hands felt cold and clammy. Quickly Mark shone in to her eyes with a flashlight to see whether her pupils dilated. They didn’t. Then we knew this was serious.
“You mush rush her to Westminster Hospital in London,” mark briskly told them. “Go to emergency, but ask for Dr. Skilley. You have no time to lose. We won’t change here bandages. I’m sorry – you must go at once - you have a very sick little girl!” We tried to send them off as fast as we could. We watched as the lights of the car drove out the lane and onto the road, speeding for London. We wondered if Lydia would even live until she arrived at the hospital. She didn’t.
On the way to the hospital, Lydia once asked for a drink of water. “We don’t have any water along” Roman told her as her held her. “We’ll soon be at the hospital, and then you may have a drink!”
When they arrived at the emergency, Roman carries Lydia inside and handed her to the nurse. Unknown to him, life had already fled.
What a traumatic experience this was for roman and Katie. Only 24 hours before, little Lydia had been alive and well, carefree and happy. What had gone wrong to bring her death so suddenly?
Of course, the police and Family & Children’s Services were involved, and Roman and Katie were investigated. The driver was very helpful, and they were questioned as well. This was like a bad dream. Only worse than a dream, because you could not wake up and discover it isn’t real! It was very real and little Lydia’s lifeless body bore witness to that fact.
At the hospital, the nurse told the police that they had seen dressings like this before in this hospital (with burdock leaves and B&W salve) and it was a job well done. We were investigated as well, but that was the last we heard from the authorities. We were very thankful, as there could very well have been an inquest. As well, the children could have been taken from the home of Roman Troyers by Family & Children’s Services. Their non-Amish midwife also helped put in a plea for Romans to FACS, which they feel helped. She happened to be at Romans when their case worker came out the following day.
Our minds reeled as the shock of this whole experience began to sink in. what ad gone wrong? We were not afraid of treating the burns. Those could very easily have been healed with burdock leaves and B&W slave. But Lydia died from shock. The trauma of this burn, the pain and suffering she experienced that first night at home so shortly after her first burn of her shoulder where she had only begun to eat well, was too much for her little body.
We attended the viewing and funeral of little Lydia. How sweet and innocent she looked in her little coffin. We would not wish her back into this world. But neither had we wished this experience and loss on Romans. Many “if onlys” passed through our minds in the days and weeks that followed. But we learned that we must go on, learn what we can from the past, and be more careful in the future.
Several things that we learned may be noteworthy to share. Burns are serious, and they should be covered as quickly as possible after cooling off to prevent excess loss of body fluid. Even though it was Sunday and we had a special meeting here, we should have kept little Lydia here and observed her during that day. If we would have known that she was not eating and was vomiting during the day, we would no doubt have sent them to the hospital right away. We have confidence that Dr. Skilley would have allowed us to treat her burns our way. But what is past is past and we want to look into the future.
In thinking over this experience, there are several things which stand our in our minds – things that we have learned and would probably do different another time.
We got the impression that the reason Lydia has such a bad night and slept so little the first night after she was burned was because she would not let them cool off the area properly before applying the lard and flour. The lard and flour method has already worked wonders in some cases and it did work for her the first time she was burned ten days previously. Our theory is that the lard and flour method seals off he air just like the B&W salve with lettuce leaves does. It can keep a patient fairly comfortable, and in some cases is all that is needed. But we have not yet found anything which actually draws out the pain like burdock leaves and B&W slave. The slave had an effective array of different herbs which work together to heal. The burdock leaves themselves contain potent healing properties which we have not been able to find anything equal so far.
Our experience had been that in serious cases if we switch to lettuce leaves with the B&W salve, it only last about 12 hours until the pain starts coming back again. But when switched back to burdock leaves again, the pain goes away.
In this case, Lydia seemed to rest more comfortably when we applies B&W slave with the burdock leaves. But it was shock that caused her death.
Shock can cause loss of body fluids (dehydration), but in this case we feel it was maybe due to the trauma of what she had gone through previously.
The way we do determine whether a person is responding and their vitals are still good is to shine a bright light into their eyes. The pupil, the black center of their eye, gets very small very quickly if the vitals are still good. The pupils of Lydia’s eyes did not change when a light was shone into her eyes.
Several days ago, the parents brought a one year old child who had fallen off an open porch and was unconscious. He was limp and even his lips had a deathly color. When alight was shone into his eyes, the pupils changed immediately so we knew his vitals were all right. We advised them to have him checked out by a doctor, which they did but found nothing seriously wrong.
We cherish having gotten to know the Roman Troyer family. Our circle of friends keeps getting larger as we come in contact with those who have experienced severe burns. There is something about sharing suffering which draws us one to another!

Note the last sentance!!!! The Amish seek to go to weddings and funerals, even if it means they travel accross country often. I will guess they spend 50% of their income in travel expenses to funerals/weddings alone. The body is RARELY if ever embalmed, so an Amish funeral is not an experince you want to bother going to and you will never get invited to an old order wedding and if you do; you get about a 2 week notice at the very most. Many of the old order familys allow the girls to sleep with every boy in their settlement and when she is pregnant, then she gets married. This insures they are pregnant very young, very dumb and pregnant every year they are alive in many cases; they never have a chance to be old enough to know better.

Amish do learn later in life and many do quit the Amish and when they do so they are then turned away and the Amish never talk to them again and it is as if they are dead. The more modern Amish have not been shunning their familys for life, they will shun them for a few years or so and eventually break down and will talk to them. The Amish Way is to teach their children that to NOT BE AMISH carries a stiff penality, to them it is the only way to keep the Amish Way. AKA "fear factor" to the extreme. Once you get to personally know young Amish, it takes no time before they start talking about how dumb the Amish are and are actualy many times ashamed of being Amish and many of the women are ashamed of being pregnant ever year and their bodies destroyed until it breaks down and she dies and is replaced with another young woman who will spend her days having more babies. Again, the "fear" factor is to have lots of babies, producing many new Amish, keeping the people poor and uneducated about anyhting but the Amish Way.

The results are you have allot of Little Amish Babies suffering in poor familys who many times see the death of little babies as not a whole lot more than just any farm yard animal dieing. Some old orders will actually take the new born baby and look at it, decide if it is "OK" before they hand the baby over to the mom to raise. They do this because of the high birth rate of deformed babies born to such worn out little mothers. Some Amish settlements actualy want or adopt these "special" children, while some of the very old orders simple do not want them and will hope the next child born is normal; either way mom will be pregnant again and again, she will defie nature by being pregnant every 11 months or so... Nature has a human female pregnant every 3 years, this allows her womb to heal and her minerals ready to create a new healthy baby.

How do the Amish avoid all the problems of having such problems? They have their own cementaries, they keep to them selves and the men folk "ALL" get a girl and the men run the show. The non-Amish Way of life the men don't always get a girl and having a family is not always easy; people many times to not realize allot of the times "Strict Religions" are all about sex/control of the femals. Keeping the females uneducated, barefoot and pregnant before she is old enough to see the world with out mom & dad keeps the system flowing and the Amish are a very fast growing group of people in the USA.

I guess the moral of the story is, we still have some freedoms to live as we choose. The Amish Way of life is closer to Nature than alot of other modern ways of life; at least they don't do abortions, they don't take drugs that kill their 1 day old pregnancies like 90% of the English Women do at one time in their lives or axctually have their abilities to have babies cut out by operation, etc., etc. ALL WE KNOW FOR SURE IS THIS: For every action, NATURE hands down judgement..... If we live correctly we thrive, if we abuse God's Laws we pay the price with our health.

Blessings,
MH
