Wow! Good for you!
We had a little black and white TV when I was very young, we would watch Andy Griffith and I Love Lucy, mostly. It broke and my parents decided not to replace it. So I grew up, with my siblings, not having a TV. People would look at me in disbelief if I told them, and ask in wonder, "How can you live without a TV???" But I didn't miss it at all.

Later on they got something that plays videos but doesn't receive TV. So we would watch some videos sometimes. Friday night was "movie night." But you have to go out and actually get the video so it's not like you can watch them all the time.

We rented a big-screen TV to watch the 1996 Olympics, returning it when the games were over.
The main times we would watch TV were at my Grandmother's house (she had cable) and in a hotel.

In college we had cable in the room and I did watch TV a fair bit. I tried to always be back in my room in the afternoon when "The Cosby Show" came on (my favorite!).

Now I am back to no TV at all and I still don't miss it. I do have Netflix, so I can and do watch movies or even a TV series if I choose. So it's not a disconnect, but it's what I have CHOSEN to watch, WHEN I want to watch it, NO commercials. Because I will watch all kinds of stuff when flipping through the TV that I would never choose to watch if I actually have to select a DVD.

Also I choose to IGNORE the news in any form (except for breaking health news here at curezone). Fortunately nobody tries to force these things upon me, if they do I just tune them out. I tell them it's boring, or that I don't know what they are talking about.

About the telephone - I have never liked the telephone. When I hear the phone ring, I feel irritated. It's so demanding. "Ring, ring - answer me NOW!" And if someone leaves a message on a machine, they expect you to call them back.
I do have a cell phone now (with a bio chip on it to neutralize radiation) but I try to keep talking to a minimum. I use it mostly to do short communication, I try to cut out the chatting. I feel like talking on the phone is a waste of my time.

I don't have a job either, yet. Although I guess I'll be getting one soon enough. I'm still looking for the right kind of job.

Anyway, I can identify with what you're doing. You've chosen a good path.
