WRH comment:

Israel said this was a joint US/Israel missile test, but missile tests are always announced ahead of time, both to make sure some third party doesn't over-react, and to give civilian ships and planes time to get out of the test area. Now the US Navy is saying they did not launch either of the two missiles Russia racked on Radar. So Israel launched them both. Why?

As I have stated several times, I do not expect Israel to leave the Syrian war to be decided by Congress. Israel has a long history of using deceptions to trick the US into wars, such as the Lavon affair, the attack on USS Liberty, and the radio transmitter planted in Tripoli by the Mossad that succeeded in tricking Reagan into bombing Libya.

I am concerned that Israel will try to goad the Syrian situation, possibly by launching an attack against the US warships, to blame on Syria and possibly Iran. In the present case, since Russia tracked the missiles from a launch point well out at sea and headed towards land, these Israeli missiles might have been intended to trick Assad into thinking the US strike was underway, tricking Assad into attacking the US warships, which would open the door to total war.

UPDATE: It occurs to me there is another possibility to explain this "test", which is that Israel tried to launch a missile over the US warships into Syria, to trick Assad into launching an attack against the US warships, only the US Navy detected the Israeli missile, saw it as an incoming threat, and shot it down. Now, like the USS Liberty hoax, in which Israel tried to sink the USS Liberty and frame Egypt for it, they are going to cover the whole botched affair up.
