I wouldnt worry too much about it, details like vertical/ horisontal etc; my life got substancially better when I only counted dropperfulls of iodine.

I give it to my kids in dropperfuls too, as I know the excess is out via urine in a day or two anyway. I have also always given it in juice, with vit C. Still works.
Make it simple is my advice.
