While researching I discovered I'm not alone in believing that we've had more exposure to algal toxins than we realize... HABs(Harmful Algal Blooms) are on the rise... Zoom in almost ANYWHERE on google earth and you'll see a body of water choked out with algae. It's not only in the water but airborne and also down in the dirt...
There is a wide spectrum of blue green algal toxins, predominantly affecting the nervous, hepatic and dermatologic systems (ie. Neurotoxic, hepatotoxic and dermatotoxic).

Some recent morgellon strands I've collected are what looks to be several types of cyanobacteria... Possibly Anabaena or Nostoc...? They look like normal threads until you look under the scope:
