I offer as "grist for your mill" the following two quotes from Schopenhauer,

and

"All truth passes through three stages: first it is ridiculed, second it is violently opposed, and third it is accepted as self-evident."

Non-patentable substances [like vitamin C] are not only not promoted by the mainstream, but they are pointedly downplayed [as there is little ECONOMIC potential there]. Unfortunately in this world, we are on our own [much of the time] to ferret out the truth!
