yes for the root canal, no for the amalgam.
the problem with the root canal is that you can never clean out all organic matter from inside the tooth, anaerobic bacteria develop in dead tissue and release small amounts of toxins, which however can be very powerful. If your liver, etc. are strong and the overall toxic burden is small, the body can handle a root canal (or at least that's what I'm banking on with mine).
Amalgams are a different story. The problem with root canals is bacteria, which the body can handle; the problem with Amalgams is mercury, which causes damage once it crosses the blood-brain barrier. Once it's in your nervous system, only chelation can get it out, very very slowly.
Personally, I have gone yes on the root canal and no on the amalgam.
