I have someone that had been on a ventilator in the hospital for quite some time as he had four open heart surgeries and two lung surgeries. It's a long story and I can elaborate later if anyone wants. This has damaged his throat muscles and swallowing capability. He is currently using a feeding tube to get his nutrients, but with therapy he may in the future be able to eat and drink again.
He's ended up with MRSA in his sputum which recently attacked his salivary gland. He's also battled mild pneumonia on and off. He's on Antibiotics which has helped his pneumonia and shrank the size of the salivary gland.
I'd like to give him some CS, but I'm not sure how. Obviously, the doctors wouldn't agree to using it. He isn't supposed to swallow anything b/c it can end up in his lungs. I'm trying to figure out my options for giving him CS.
Would topical CS do anything for someone with MRSA internally and how much would I apply? Could I put a drop under his tongue or something? Or even if I just had him swish it around his mouth and spit it out? If he gets to come back home I can add some to his feeding tube, but until then, I can't get away with that. I'm not even sure that it would be as helpful since his problem seems to be with his respiratory. He is also using oxygen
Any help with this or other ideas would be wonderful.
