Basically a person must learn or re learn to "trust", field test and re develope thier own insight, intuition, visions, feelings, instincts, memories, second sight, and hunches. Sadly, bad western education, save Waldorf and similar spiritually progressive schools, have neglected to teach such self trust and intuitive understanding.
There are many good books that teach individuals how to re-learn psychic sight, psychic intuition, astral travel, communication with God, angels, reading the askasha records, second sight,etc. One readily available, good book is is 'Trust Your Vibes' by Psychic Sonia Choquette.
In an old lakehouse we had, I saw 2 ghosts repeatedly, a husband and a wife, the wife was always crying and the husband was always walking out the door wearing a business suit and carrying a briefcase and there was fire around them. These 2 ghosts and thier sad energy started to bug me after awhile so I asked sensitives, psychic friends, for advice and read some older books on spirits and learned how to do a spirit release and send this couple back to God and the light.

The work was a success and the 2 ghosts left, the sad energy and mood of the lakehouse lifted dramatically for the better after the spirts were sent back to Gods Love and Light.

Later that summer I came across old old deeds to the lakehouse and an obituary article about the former residents. A lawyer and his wife originally built the lakehouse, he was the only lawyer in the town at the time and he was very busy doing work the article reported,(the ghost I saw of a man with a briefcase always walking out the door was this lawyer). A tragic fire stuck this man and his wife and the lakehouse burnt down to the ground and both the young lawyer and his wife died in the fire in 1957. (that explained the wife crying and the flames around the 2 ghosts). I investigated more and found in the basement the old old original brace rafters in the basement behind where new rafter were built and laid, were all charred pitch black, indicating yes indeed there was a bad fire at one time in that lakehouse. The trauma of the fire death is possibly what trapped these 2 souls.

A psychic friend of mine came to the lakehouse and said the land was the sight of a bloody battle between early soldiers and indians and many deaths occured there in that battle and this bloodshed created a negative energy vortex of trapped spirits on the land and surrounding area. I looked further into the former residents histories and a burn victim man owned the house for many years after it was rebuilt and lived as a hermit. I saw him once, he was 90% covered with burn scars. The next owner had a left leg amputation in a machine accident the hour to the EXACT MINUTE his agents and lawyer signed the transfer deed selling the property. And within 2 weeks of purchase the new owner had a left leg amputation in a boat accident off the pier. I saw him once later and he had a plastic and metal prosthetic leg.

We moved after the summer I did the spirit release and my psychic friend did the area spirit clearing. I thank God every day nothing physically happened to me at that haunted lakehouse (just frayed nerves) and now I know why I always felt the need to go into heavy duty continuous prayer when we were out there. I feel I was sent there to release those trapped spirits.

The Chinese often will not buy a property where misfortune occured as thier culture teaches them spirit understanding and ancestral spirit worship. Same with the Hindu India cultures, the Tibetans, the spiritual Indians, the South American cultures, the Japanese, and other non misinformed european cultures. Billions of earths sentient human beings know, believe, are taught and understand spirit life as part of thier daily practices and cultures.
Only some miseducated, brainwashed, devil spirit possessed blind deaf usurped lost people fear and do not understand the spiritual world. If the demons in humans can not prostitute, exploit and corrupt something they try to minimize it, hide it or obfuscate it. To be ignorant of the spirit world is to ignore God, spirit. Those non informed of the spirit world are defenseless and open to possession, dis ease, illness and harm by evil spirits. To understand lost, fallen, trapped or captive spirits is to not fear them or judge them. Just know to send them back to Gods Love and Light with the help of the holy angels.
By the by - When we sold the lakehouse I disclosed the prior spiritual activity of the house. The realtor we hired laughed and said he promised to mention the "little green men in the refridgerator". I asked him not to make jokes of the spiritual nature of the house. This spirit mocking realtor had a sudden heart attack and died and we found a new realtor who would mention the house had to have a spirit cleansing. It is not wise to mock the spirit world, it is not wise to mock anyone really. As far as I know the new owners are doing okay there. And I made sure to double and triple check the prior history and land use and ownership of our new residence and all turned up good. I would never again live in or buy a rebuilt burn out where people died or even a foreclosure from a divorced or financial ruin people as you can possibly be stepping into the old owners hardships. Best to live in a place where prior residents and land use were good, peaceful and happy.
