Wow! This is going in my MH favorites.
Regarding "reaching out and hugging" the ghosts...when I was young I used to get harrassed by some entity type thing all the time. It used to scare me, and it went on for years, it used to try to crush me in bed, until I figured out how to "hug" it. (I never thought of it that way, but now that you mention it that's pretty much what I did) After a few tries the thing went away and hasn't been back for over 10 years.
