Heya BF :-)

I got the info on my other gene results from:

https://livewello.com/23andme

For 20 bucks you upload your 23andme results into their app and they give results for over 290 genes to do with methylation, detox, immune function etc.

It's the best 20 bucks i spent on top of the 100 for 23andme! Saved me weeks of going through the genes myself.

GAD gene is a b*tch...it should convert glutamate to GABA...so far research shows this is impaired if mutated...sounds like yours is as bad as my function in this area. The upside is lots of glutamate for brain function...but that function is hyper and hard to control ;-), downside being less GABA in the body and brain for calming often leading to ADHD, autistic behaviours, and anxiety in adults.

I've suggested to the mods to start a nutrigenomics support forum for folk interested in this and for those doing it to share info and experiences...would be great to have some support in this request...helps to keep this kind of into in one place instead of scattered around the whole of CZ:

Today i've been researching the MAOA and B genes and their correlation with depression. It's astounding how these genes really do seem to pre-dispose us to these conditions.

I often surf the raw data in 23andme. If we have mutations in a gene aswell as normal gene expression, it all depends on research done on those particular snp's to know whether the normal genes cancel out the function of the mutated genes. Oftentimes the snp's are shown in studies to alter function despite the 'normal' snp's in the same gene. Also it depends on that enzymatic function and whether another gene also 'makes up' for that mutation - which can sometimes be the case.

The genes i think most important to dig into are the ones mentioned by Yasko, geneticgenie, but also the ones given on the livewello app. The result livewello give also contain links to studies done on that particular snp....which helps us understand better the function of that gene and effect of it being mutated.

Hope all this makes sense...i've had a weird day from the effects of the high 5-HTP dose!
