Might want to look into getting a "Tanakh".

It is a direct translation from the Hebrew scrolls into todays english.

I have one and it is the closest one can get without learning Hebrew.

I believe you can get the "Word of God" out of any bible, some are just easier to read than others.

You will also notice the "Tanakh" has no new testament.
