I have 3 or 4 mercury Amalgams in my teeth, the earliest is around 30 years old. I want them removed, but of course that's very expensive. Now I am living in Peru. All medical care is much cheaper here than the US, and I found a dentist online who is a mercury removal specialist in Lima and was thinking of going to him. I haven't inquired yet about cost, but am hoping it would be less than $1000 in total, hopefully much less. But then I asked my dentist here if he could recommend someone in Lima, and what he told me, as far as I could comprehend, is that he, himself, could simply grind down my mercury fillings and encapsulate them with non-mercury amalgam. Well, that would save me TONS of money.. it only cost me around $16 to have a new cavity filled by him with a non-mercury amalgam. But, the GRINDING!!!!! (I assume it was grinding, not chipping, but my Spanish is still quite limited.)
Has anyone heard of this treatment being used in place of removal?
Any other thoughts about the process itself, how I would protect myself if I did it, and if mercury would still get into my system post-encapsulation?
Thanks!
