You have to remember that Christ was lead by the Holy Spirit into the wilderness! It may be that a fast goes better when directed by the Called Alongside One.
Also, Don't forget to prepare for the fast by eating juices up to the water only fast. If you're taking vitamins and drinking coffee, they it's not really a fast, but a diet. That kind would be handled a different way.
