Interesting experiment.

Have you tried to observe what kind of micro organisms are alive and dead in the water ?
And how they are damaged by the lectric signal ?

I have seen affordable digital microscopes (1000x zoom or more) on ebay. Maybe it can help you to see what is going on before or after or even in real time.
