Isn't Hawthorn related to Apple, or very similar? Apple seeds are supposed to be poisonous, containing cyanide,or more precisely a compound that can release cyanide when it mixes with digestive juices.
Assuming that might also be true of Hawthorn, you don't ever eat Hawthorn seeds and they are very hard, so it's not likely that you could chew them up even if you wanted to. After tincturing, the seeds are discarded with the pulp.

As Uny states, Hawthorn has been used safely for hundreds, and probably thousands of years, so where's the problem?

However, people who love to worry and fret (many people do :-) may feel free to google on the topic. I saw reference to seeds and bark being ground for medicine, also dried haws being pressed into "flakes," somewhere in the world. And of course there is the famous Hawthorn jam. Jam contains seeds, right? As opposed to Jelly? But as mentioned, they are very hard. Do you chew all the seeds in your strawberry jam? Break them all with your teeth?
