Dr. Brownstein himself started Iodine while not ill. He thought he was in good health himself. But after starting Iodine he realised that he had not been in optimal health.
So yes, I believe that low dosages of Iodine keep a lot of people functioning quite well. BUT not optimally.
For instance at the school where I work, I bet most colleagues consider themselves to be in good health, but they get the flu every winter. Personally, I believe a person in excellent health (which to me means on iodine and good food) does not get ill.
Also, two acquaintances, who would themselves have said to have been in good health, got hyperthyroidism after being pregnant. That proves they were NOT in good health before getting pregnant.
With only limited iodine, your health is on the edge of the knife: one bad thing happens and the health is gone. This might be a virus, stress, you suddenly started eating soy, pregnancy, ...
Ah, I have one more. These "healthy" people (on low iodine) get cancer!! So, even though they were feeling "well", there bodies were fighting to keep them alive.
I think there is a big difference between feeling "well" on low iodine, and feeling WELL when you're saturated.
