@tea drinker: Dr Campbell McBride does mention was to treat hypochlorhydria and she does say that it is quite common. Did you try the approaches listed in her book?

I am just about to start the GAPS diet. I have been trying to find places to get all the things that I require before starting it such as Organic meat/bones for the soup stock and I even need a stock pot because I don't have anything other than a large pan I use for boiling milk for making yoghurt.

It's been a challenge so far.

At the end of last year I went carb free and OMG constipation....it was like $hitting bricks. Not at all fun so I had to add some supplementary fibre such as Glucomannan & cellulose in addition to the psyllium I have been having for a long time. Of course, on Gaps she deliberately lows the fibre content of the diet which is something that I don't think I can do because I have a lazy bowel, which is due to suppression of feelings and expression of emotions of sadness. It's how my body's nervous system encodes these emotions and it's also the same with my Aunt who has similar problems.

However I have other ideas on getting a faster response! I know where the problem lies and I know how to defeat it so the 18 month+ of GAPS shouldn't be necessary. Destroying the pathogenic bacteria is the main issue, the body should heal itself once they are defeated. High enemas using the right constituents should do that. Wash out the colon at least to the end of the transverse colon and then use some enzymes while perched upside down for as long as possible. Then a probiotic enema also while upside down. It did cause some sensations in the area where I know the problem lies when I tried a high garlic enema. I now know what is needed to destroy the biofilm protecting them and then a good dose of probitics including some Bacillus Subtilis should do the business.

I do need to find some liquid enzymes suitable for disolving bacterial biofilms. I know that Bacillus Subtilis can assist in that but I think more is needed to get a fast result.
