Maxime,
I keep my lips constantly covered with a barrier (Vaseline). And yes I can smile/talk/eat with no discomfort. And my lips look completely normal.
Without a barrier though, my lips do get a tiny bit of that dry/plastic feeling and you can see that the texture of the affected area is a tiny bit different. But not as much as it used to. But the color is completely normal, so that texture difference is really the only reason I can still tell I have minimal inflammation. And I also believe that since I still have some tiny inflammation, without a barrier my lips will dry up a bit and perhaps build up a tiny bit. But not like they used to.
And I figured out that I have a staph infection because I went to my derm and asked for a swab culture. They literally rub a Q-Tip on the inner part of your lip and its done. Then they culture than swab and it will tell you if you have an infection.
And no, I didnt have any noticeable problem with my tongue/saliva/mouth either. The staph infection didnt show itself in anyway. Except for the possibility that it is causing the rest of the minimal inflammation (which I hope). So yes, I HIGHLY recommend you get tested because I have read that many inflammatory skin conditions like Psoriasis and eczema can get infected with staph which can make them much harder to treat because the staph feeds the inflammation. You can see one of my recent posts where I cited a paper about this.
Hope I answered everything haha
