I had the same experience. Now, I clean the bowels first with boiled body temp water until I'm as clean as I can be, then I do the coffee enema with two teaspoons of coconut oil. Then I do a boiled water (body temp) again with one teaspoon coconut oil to clean out the coffee.

No soreness and bowel movements restore within a day.

If you have not tried coconut oil before, put a little on your mouth first to see if you get some reaction. Good luck :)
