Regular oral ALA crosses the bbb just fine so there is no need to take it topically.

According to Andy Cutler, the bigger concern is to keep blood levels of LA fairly stable so mobilized / kicked up Hg does not go from parts of the body that are not so vulnerable to parts of the body that are quite vulnerable. More on this if requested.
