Tigressa, I am SO sorry to read of your horrifying experience and I am grateful that you are home.

Did you report the incident to the authorities in that country or your country's consulate? Even if you didn't report it to the local authorities, it may be prudent to report it to the consulate so that they can alert foreign travelers to this threat. In other countries, local residents are well aware which properties are locally owned and occupied, and which properties are rentals - this makes it very easy for "bad" people to engage in such activities.

Now that you are home, I would strongly urge you to contact your local rape hotline. I would also strongly encourage you to engage in strong TRAUMA counseling with a professional that "gets it." You were violated on many levels and your sense of safety, security, self-worth, and many other core beliefs has been shattered by an act of violence, and there are ramifications that come with such experiences.

Anxiety and hyper vigilance are "normal" responses to trauma. So is anger and suspicion. If these issues aren't assisted through professional and COMPETENT counseling, they can develop into crippling disorders that manifest in a host of ways.

Visit the website: http://www.rainn.org
to get information and help in your locality. Do this, now, BEFORE it becomes unmanageable and crippling.

My most sincere and heartfelt healing blessings to you.
